This is just one of many ways that the financial support I received is able to directly impact this place.

The housing that these children live in satisfies their basic needs. They have beds to sleep on, which were actually just replaced a few months ago by a previous volunteer. They have a kitchen, living room area, bathroom, etc. In my opinion there are some renovations that would make this place more suitable for the children who live here everyday!

I noticed a lot of cracked windows. At first I was thinking to myself, it would look a lot better if they were fixed. After bringing up the idea to Teresia, she made me realize that it’s affecting so much more than the appearance alone.

With rainy season right around the corner comes slightly cooler temperatures. This is a blessing for many because upcountry needs rain very badly for their crops, animals, and the people who live there as well. There has been much less rain in Kenya than there usually is at this time of year, to the point of it being considered a drought. This will likely curb its economic growth. As for here in Kasarani, the air at night is going to feel very cold to the kids, and there’s no way to stop it from getting in with broken windows. Even worse than that, MOSQUITOES! I love how Kenyan people say this word with their English accents. I say the word "mo SQUEET ohs" any chance I get. The mosquitoes (last time I promise) get into the home and have a frenzy off the children every night. They are covered in bites that some of them can't even scratch because their handicaps keep them from reaching to their ankles. When all this was explained to me, I knew this change had to be made. We went into town and after stopping by a few shops, we found the right guy for the job!

This sweet man who cuts glass didn't hesitate a second after we met him. He hopped in the car and came to measure the size of the pane!

Once we had a measurement and a count of 20 panes to fix, he and Teresia found a fair price. I am so happy to be able to actualize the donations you guys so graciously gave. Before even knowing what you were giving towards, you trusted me to take initiative to find concrete ways to leave this corner of the world a little bit better than how I found it. Here is the final result!

My time here is so short for now, but these amazing children will call this place home indefinitely. I had been praying for an opportunity to make some sort of lasting impact this month, to God be the glory for this little victory!
